The Freemason Policy of No Politics

It is a common misconception that Freemasons are a religious or political organization. Freemasons have a similar ideology to the local Kiwanis or Knights of Columbus. These private organizations of philanthropic men seek to provide the community with charitable works. Because the Freemason helps society anonymously, their history is veiled in secrecy. A stonemason by definition is a builder. Freemasons use this analogy to build good will within communities. Their good works are based on the beliefs of moral and ethical principals of love, relief, and truth.

The historical secrecy of the Freemason results from the anonymity of charitable acts and their desire to give without glory. Involved in fund raising, civic projects to rebuild communities and activities to enhance medical and education benefits for children, Freemason may seem to have a political or democratic position. These men, however, of great moral and ethical value, understand that many civic projects fall into the hands of political ideologists.

Their works set an example for communities that doing right is more important that defining or developing a constituency. Today, Freemason’s work on projects such as Shriners’ Hospital for Children, CHIPS programs, sheltered housing and nursing care. Once prominent in the United States, the Freemason membership flourishes in the United Kingdom.
